Along those lines, we will be hosting another session of our Basic Aviation Photography Class at Historic Flight on the 12th. Pretty short notice, but I didn't want to waste any time after being busy with flying stuff for so long. I'm also really excited to move on to creating the syllabus for our next class: Photoshop for Aviation Photographers!

I have now purchased the first piece of equipment PNWAP will have available for rent, and that is a ColorMunki Display monitor calibrator. If you've ever wondered why other people may say your photos are too dark or too saturated, properly calibrating your monitor will probably help. I've been very picky about calibrating my monitors but by hand you can only get them so close. The ColorMunki will give you perfectly predictable results across as many screens as you have, both Mac and PC. This is a $150 piece of technology that I'll rent out for free to paying PNWAP members and $10 per week for non-paying members of the Facebook group. I will bring it to the Basic Aviation Photography class on the 12th and you can bring in your laptop to be calibrated then, or at the end of the day I will rent it out on a first come, first served basis.

Our next class, Photoshop for Aviation Photographers, will be held at the Future of Flight, and there will be some small fee for attending that will help cover the cost of renting their facility. To show their support for PNWAP they are cutting us a significant price break :)

Please feel free to comment here if you have any ideas for more ways PNWAP can benefit you and the community of local photographers.

Basic Photography Class Postponed until July 23rd

Due to some schedule conflicts I've been unable to put the time into preparing for the Basic Photography Class this weekend, so I am rescheduling it to July 23rd.

Our first class was a huge success, so we're doing it again!

The first session of our Basic Photography Class was a huge success, so I will be presenting the same material again on June 25th. It will again be free with admission at the Historic Flight Foundation. Registration is open as of now, but registration is not required, walk-ins are welcome. I selected June 25th because that morning HFF will be hosting their new AoA class. This class will allow you access to The Berm and other select areas of the HFF ramp that are not open to the general public.

Registration open to the public!

Anyone may now register for the PNWAP Basic Photography Class to be presented at the Historic Flight Foundation on May 14th. Spaces are limited but additional dates will be offered if demand exceeds our capacity.

Aside from that however, I've been busy as ever, many of you heard about the MiG-29 and were able to come and see it fly thanks to the work I've been doing with the Historic Flight Foundation, and I am already working on some special events this summer in partnership with them that I know you will all enjoy.

The local airshow calendar is pretty well filled up, I'm only waiting on dates to be announced for a few more events and then we can call that settled. My next step will be contact the airshow organizers and talking to them about PNWAP, trying to set up partnerships that will benefit both sides. I'll keep you posted as that goes on.

Last but not least I will be out of town for both of the remaining two Space Shuttle launches (hopefully)... if any of you haven't been to a launch before, these are your last chances to see, hear, and FEEL that incredible aircraft. Not seeing one at least once is a regret I would take with me to my grave, so even if you don't think you should, if it's AT ALL possible... get down there ;)

Happy Holidays!

PNWAP is continuing to grow slowly but steadily, thank you for all your support! I have a few small updates for you before we all take a break for the holidays.

I've been working with Historic Flight Foundation (www.historicflight.org) to setup a new photo gallery on their website, their desire is to have this regularly updated so that visitors will always have something new to see on the site. There are two portions of the gallery, the first is the "official" gallery that only a couple of photographers (myself, Lyle Jansma, perhaps one or two others) can upload to, this portion will be pretty strictly controlled since it will be the official "face" of HFF. The second portion is where the fun is tho, that's a Flickr Group that feeds directly into the HFF website. Any photos added to the Flickr Group will be displayed in the Fan Flickr Photos section of the Gallery, which means this is a way for EVERYONE to contribute and get their photos some exposure. I will be regularly scouring Flickr for great photos tagged with "Historic Flight Foundation" or "HFF" for inclusion in this group, so please make sure that if you take any photos there, tag appropriately! Or you could just submit them to the group, it's called Historic Flight Foundation and located at http://www.flickr.com/groups/historicflight/ (because of the direct link between the group and the site I'm not accepting new members to the group yet, I want to make sure I can moderate the images submitted for the time being).

The other update includes a new article in my iPhone series, I hope you are enjoying it because it's been fun to write, but now we're getting into the real meat of the matter where the good tidbits are ;)

That's all I have for you for now, as planned, once the holidays are over and the new year has begun the real work will begin: making arrangements for all the special opportunities I hope to offer next year to PNWAP members!

Things have been pretty quiet on the aviation front thanks to all this dreadful weather, but I have been working on a project with the Historic Flight Foundation that may give a few of us something to do on a regular basis. I'm still working on the logistics of it, and I'll talk more about it once it's all settled.

I want to thank you all for the feedback you've provided over the past couple of weeks, it's good to know that most of you feel PNWAP is on the right track. Things will remain slow with the group until after the holidays, but as soon as January starts, the big push to get opportunities set up for next year's airshow season will begin. I will need all the help I can get, so if you know any local photographers who haven't yet signed up, please ask them to do so.

Here are a few of the things I will be trying to organize:

An aviation photography class, including safety on the flightline and tips for aerial photography

A limited number of opportunities to apprentice with some of the best local aviation photographers

A special viewing area for PNWAP members at Flying Heritage Collection's Fly Days

A boat out on Lake Washington during Seafair

Flightline access at Arlington, Hillsboro, and Vintage Aircraft Weekend

Group transportation to Fairchild, Abbotsford, and Hillsboro

Again, thanks for your support and feedback, I'll post another update in the next couple of weeks to let you know where things stand with the HFF project and a few other things I am working on.

PNWAP Updates

Recently we held our first meeting, but unfortunately the timing of it prevented most of you from attending. Because of this, I have created a Feedback form that asks most of the really critical questions I needed to ask in order to continue developing PNWAP. Please take a moment and fill out the feedback form here: Feedback

I'm making good progress on the PNWAP calendar but I am still looking for photo submissions. If you are a registered member of PNWAP but have not submitted any photos for use in the calendar I highly recommend that you do so.
